Brunino, or full Località Brunino, and also Piani di Brunino for its flat conformation, is a place on Grignone just over a thousand meters high, in the municipality of Pasturo in Valsassina.

Brunino lies in the advanced position of Grigna Settentrionale, in a plane, and then in a slight descent, sunny, grass kept, where in summer it is bailed the hay. The space is a basin closed by the small hill that surrounding it, at south Costa Riale, 1083 meters high, westward another one, in a map named Zucco del Canto del Brug, 1097 meters high, in the middle the wonderful scenary of two Grigne. On the other side, partly hidden from a bump on which there is a farm, one can see the Orobie's highest mountains of Valsassina,[^] Culmine San Pietro and Zucco di Desio.
In Brunino there are, scattered, a dozen mountain huts, chalets, houses, farmsteads and Agriturismo Brunino, which is a mountain refuge.

Brunino can be reached by car from two roads, from Pasturo and Chiesetta del Sacro Cuore (Small Church of the Sacred Heart), which is approximately one kilometer from Colle di Balisio, both accessible only by authorized vehicles, a cycle route and numerous trails. Walking from Pasturo it takes about an hour and from Chiesetta del Sacro Cuore under half an hour. Brunino is about ten kilometers from Lecco, from Brianza is one hour far, including the walk, and in just over from Milan, closeness that makes the pleasant resort frequented.

Place center and huts

Arriving in Brunino from the road that goes up from the Church of the Sacred Heart,[^] where you can park your car in a dirt road and follow Torrente Cornisella along the Cold Water Valley, in view of the resort center there is a didactic panel by Regional Park of the Northern Grigna and Valsassina, Valvarrone, Val d'Esino and Riviera Mountain Community, that informs about Site of Community Importance IT2030001 "Northern Grigna".[^] A few meters before the last bend of the road, a little hidden, a path, Sentiero Brunino - Cornisella, bypasses on the right the steep coast of Zucco, indicated by a yellow sign with two errors (or terms not common) in the first two names, Cornicella (instead of Cornisella) and Pialleral, and a third, S. Calimero.[^]

In front of looking left, sideways, Agriturismo Brunino, and right a farm, is the heart of the resort. The road is interrupted by a bar, where on a yellow sign is written Chi Apre Chiuda (Who Open Close) and below, more in small, Thank you.[^][^] A revolving passage, unusual thing in mountain, passes a person on the other side, where there is a sign, Municipality road, which suggests a different property of the two roads.[^] Here also a location table of Pedalling in the Park signage by Regional Park of the Northern Grigna and by Valsassina, Valvarrone, Val d'Esino and Riviera Mountain Community, that says Brunino 1,010 meters, and indicates a path to Cappella del Sacro Cuore as 3.[^]

Agriturismo Brunino, which is now in front of and slightly raised above the road, at 1015 meters high, is formed by a one-storey building with a sloping roof attic.[^] One can eat into a large room with fireplace or a veranda with Grignetta in front. In an outdoor area there is a small lawn, equipped with tables, deckchairs and umbrellas. There is always someone, hikers, cyclists or who can go by car.[^] On the coast of the meadow there is a hut that seems to look behind the agriturismo.[^]

Facing Agriturismo Brunino is Cascina Margherita,[^] the name is written on a wooden sign, which is a touristic building that hosts parties, groups and guys of the parishes. It has 6 bedrooms with 25 beds, common inside areas and outside for play and recreation,[^] a small church,[^][^] and is rentable even for only one weekend. Next is Baita Costantino,[^] same size of Cascina Margherita, a little further on a Chalet,[^] rentable. These three facilities are managed by Agenzia Viaggi Regina delle Grigne (Travel Agency Queen of Grigne) in Lecco.[^]
The dirt road that runs along these farms is closed by a bar, where there is an access prohibition sign with the word private road.[^] At the end of this, getting lost in the woods on the slopes of Costa Riale, an old farm with beautiful view on Grignetta,[^][^] in the plateau below the coast, a little down, two houses.

Going back to the location center, and continuing for the flat dirt road towards north, on the right coast a large farmhouse in a dominant position[^] and, sometimes, cows grazing in the planes.[^] On the short slope that rises on the left to the Zucco, there are five or six houses and cabins, modern and good appeareance, sometimes inhabited in summer.

Crossroads at the small chapel coming from Pasturo Road

Coming to Brunino from Pasturo through the agro-forestry-pastoral Road Pasturo - Alpe Cova, road for only authorized vehicles, from a branch that comes off shortly before Cornisella and climbing two hairpin turn in the woods, it arrives to a crossroad where is small a chapel.[^][^] The masonry chapel has statues depicting the Holy Family and an angel, under a plaque with a prayer to Mary, with the written Brunino, year 2000.[^] The votive shrine does not inspire me particular religious feelings. At the same time, the view is attracted, to the left, by the farmhouse overlooking Brunino and by a dirt road that goes straight and flat to the center of the resort, no more than a hundred meters away and hidden by a semi-curve.

With the face turned to the small chapel:

• to the right, a path that goes in the direction of Cornisella, now marked by a red and black wooden arrow.[^] It is Sentiero Cornisella - Brunino that passes from Spinarolo, marked in opposite direction by Valsassina, Valvarrone, Val d'Esino and Riviera Mountain Community as Brunino - 3.
• to the left, a dirt road goes slightly uphill, crossing the ditch that closes Brunino. It goes on flat and then downhill for about four hundred meters, where one meets two small huts, an old farm and down three houses, here the road ends. The view enjoys Altopiano Valsassina's countries and its mountains.[^]

On the side of the chapel, along the dirt road to the center of Brunino, there is a stone to sit down. Here is a trail table, Cappella del Sacro Cuore - 3 for the road, which is for cyclists coming from Cornisella, and a wooden sign, Agriturismo, in the same direction.[^]

Conclusion

Brunino, or as you like Piani di Brunino, a short distance from Lecco, Brianza and Milan, is an excellent destination to spend a few hours in the green, without cars and in the cool of the mountain. The resort is relaxing, isolated from the small hills surrounding and guarded by the Grigne.[^][^] It lives up in summer and during holiday periods, also thanks to boys and girls of Cascina Margherita and Cascina Constantino,[^][^][^][^] who can play and walk on the many trails of Northern Grigna.
Hikers, after a short walk, and cyclists find hospitality at Agriturismo Brunino, almost always open, a reference point for the place and the mountain, for Pasturo and its people,[^] where eating at reasonable prices.

I've discovered Brunino in the last few years, coming from higher up, generally from Alpe Cova passing through Cornisella, to find something to eat served. I was fine, now Brunino is my destination, also because it is at an altitude where in summer one escapes from the heat and the temperature is pleasant.
